TAHOE TREE COMPANY
Tahoe Tree Company is a retail and wholesale nursery, providing hundreds of varieties of plants and trees proven to thrive in the unique Tahoe environment for over seven decades. Tucked in on the corner of Granlibakken Road and Highway 89 just outside downtown Tahoe City, this locally owned business was started in 1954 by Dave McBride, originally located at 64 Acres. Coming under new local ownership in 2021, Tahoe Tree Company continues to pride itself in supporting the community’s garden needs, including offering a large variety of self-propagated flowers, shrubs and trees. Our acres of greenery are enticingly visible from the highway, and the grounds offer shady beauty on even the hottest summer days. Stop by for everything from trees and plants to seasoned landscaping advice, garden gifts, and colorful pottery!
OWNER JOHN CRUS
John Crus is a long time resident and business owner in North Lake Tahoe. He values the Tahoe community, working and playing hard to help keep the Tahoe spirit alive and well. John has a degree in Restoration Ecology, and started a local landscape company, Green Envy, Inc., in 2005. Since then, John has put significant efforts into maintaining the natural Tahoe landscape for all his clients. He sees Tahoe Tree Company as another exciting opportunity to provide Tahoe City residents’ with all of their greenery needs, large and small.
JULIE
Julie has worked at Tahoe Tree Company for 15 years. Being married to a landscaper for 40 years has given her a behind-the-scenes understanding of the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of planting.
Julie loves to help DIY gardeners plan their yards; her go-to is using natives as the foundation, while also considering the different, unusual, or new varietal plants and trees that need to be incorporated into the landscape. Laying out plant combinations for customers to visualize is always so helpful. Julie is also experienced in vegetable gardening in the Tahoe area, enjoys introducing new gardeners to the nursery and welcoming back long-standing customers for another season.

MEGAN
Megan started working at Tahoe Tree 28 yrs ago under the tutelage of some amazing women, and owners. Now you will find her running around helping contractors, selling product to other nurseries, or glued to her computer placing orders.
Megan truly appreciates all the relationships she has formed over the past many years with her coworkers and customers. In her free time you can find Megan hiking, biking, and skiing in backcountry of the Sierra Nevada.
NANCY
Nancy has worked at the nursery for 40 years, give or take. She started as a water girl and throughout the years has moved to work in the landscape division, backyard/wholesale and, until recently, was the general manager.
Education is everything to Nancy – she read incessantly about plants and design to get ideas and loves talking to other gardeners and visiting other nurseries to then practice in her own garden. She lives by the belief that gardening is not an exact science, so don’t be afraid to experiment!
Even after all these years, Nancy still loves working with customers and staff that are just starting out. We all know that Nancy’s most valuable skill and all-time favorite job is merchandising the nursery, “it makes me all warm and fuzzy when I get it right!”
KAREY
Karey has worked at Tahoe Tree Company for four summers, and in Public Service at North Tahoe PUD, for 25 years. Her favorite part of working at Tahoe Tree Company is creating displays with the beautiful pottery and yard art at Tahoe Tree. Karey also loves planting up wine barrels and old wheelbarrows, in hopes that they provide inspiration to our customers for their gardens at home….the possibilities are endless!
ELIN
Elin began working with Tahoe Tree Company this last May as a sales associate. Her love of plants, gardening and landscaping brought her to Tahoe Tree after time working in carpentry and woodcraft. Elin truly enjoys working with customers, helping them find just the right flowers, shrubs and trees for their gardens; she finds that providing helpful tips on planting and garden care the most rewarding. Elin is also grateful for the fantastic staff, with their years of knowledge and expertise, they make every day an experience in learning, encouraging her to develop new interests in the plant world.
